"Phillip & Arin"
Photographer: Anne Geddes
Title: “Phillip & Arin”
Year: 1993. From Anne: " I was in San Francisco on a shoot and had a spare afternoon, so I sent my assistants out to find "a bodybuilder". They were resourcefully waiting in the carpark of a local gym when Phillip came out. He must have thought they were crazy, but he still came along. I love this image for its simple yet multi-layered symbolism. Firstly, the obvious strength and support of the white pillar. Then Phillip, who reminds me of a Rodin sculpture - his beautiful, smooth, quiet presence projecting strength, calm and yet softness. And tiny newborn Arin (just 4 weeks old) who symbolizes promise, purity and vulnerability. Each supporting and trusting the other, which is the way it should be".
